Korean Choir
A cultural bridge between Korea and Bulgaria — one song at a time.
Founded by COMPERA's Founder and Artistic Director, Korean baritone Jiyoul Lee, the Korean Choir was created to introduce the beauty of Korea's rich musical heritage to the people of Bulgaria.
As a Korean musician living and working in Bulgaria, Jiyoul Lee has witnessed the growing interest that many Bulgarians have in Korean culture. While K-pop and Korean dance have already become widely popular around the world, he believed there should also be opportunities for people to discover another side of Korea—its elegant and timeless Korean art songs (Gagok).
The Korean Choir was established with the vision of allowing Bulgarian citizens not only to listen to Korean music, but to experience it personally by learning, singing, and performing Korean songs on stage. Through these performances, we hope to share the emotional depth, poetic beauty, and cultural richness of traditional Korean vocal music with audiences throughout Bulgaria.
The choir welcomes everyone who has an interest in music or Korean culture, regardless of previous musical experience.
Members receive weekly rehearsals and vocal coaching, enabling them to improve their singing technique while enjoying the experience of making music together. More importantly, the choir serves as a cultural bridge between Korea and Bulgaria, fostering friendship, mutual understanding, and artistic exchange through the universal language of music.
